British tourists visiting Greece’s bars and restaurants are ‘warned’

British tourists in Greece have been warned to expect a £688 charge to visit a bar in Mykonos. A couple have slammed a notorious restaurant in Mykonos, Greece, as a “total rip-off” after returning home from holiday to find they had been charged £688 for two drinks.

A couple who visited DK Oyster captioned it “avoid at all costs” before claiming they were forced to pay $876 or £688 after ordering two drinks they said were said they would cost €51 (£43) each.

“Total swagger! Make sure you get a receipt before you leave and check your credit card as they overcharge. I was told the beds were free to move if we ordered food or drink,” they fumed on TripAdvisor. They continued: “No problem….ordered 2 drinks which I then saw were €51 each.

“If that wasn’t crazy enough, we came back to the States and had an $876 charge on our account. FOR 2 DRINKS!!!” They continued: “We are trying to dispute it with our credit card company which is also a disaster as we have never signed for anything or received a hard copy of a receipt. BEWARE and avoid this place!!”

In response, the owner of the famous bar struck. The manager said: “Our sunbeds come with a minimum consumption, so we encourage all visitors to check the menus before placing their orders. I would like to mention that our menus are displayed on tables near the entrance, showing the prices of our food and drinks to inform our guests.”

He also said: “If you wish, we can always provide you with additional information about your order. Please reconsider some of the harsh language and accusations used as we strive to provide a positive experience for all our guests and have no intention of spoiling your experience.”
