Live: M4 crash causes lane closures and traffic queues near Bristol

Traffic is backed up after a crash on the M4 this morning, Thursday July 4. One lane is closed on the eastbound carriageway near Bristol.


According to traffic monitoring website Inrix, the accident happened between junction 21 of the M48 and junction 20 of the Almondsbury Interchange. It was first reported shortly after 7.30am and traffic is now backing up on the motorway.



Inrix says: “Traffic backed up and one lane closed due to an accident on the M4 eastbound from J21 M48 to J20 M5 J15 (Almondsbury Interchange). The cameras show that lane one (out of three) is closed.”

Residual delays remain

The latest update from Inrix says: ‘Traffic backed up due to accident, now on the shoulder on the M4 East from J21 M48 to J20 M5 J15 (Almondsbury change).

“Cameras show the accident has now been moved to the shoulder, residual delays remain.”
