The Sheffield Wednesday favorite could be Danny Rohl’s most improved player next season

Danny Rohl may already know who will be Sheffield Wednesday’s most improved player next season.

Sheffield Wednesday and Danny Rohl look set for an exciting 2024/25 season and are gearing up for a drastic improvement in their 2023/24 campaign.

Although a 20th place finish marked an incredible turnaround in S6, Rohl, the players and the fans are ready to put last season’s struggles behind them.

This summer is off to a strong start. Rohl first signed a new deal, then welcomed six new signings; many of which were signed when Rohl wasn’t even in the country.

It suggests a new organization at Hillsborough and new ambition and long-term vision under controversial owner Dejphon Chansiri.

The competition for the first team seems to have increased with the arrival of the summer signings, with the signings of Yan Valery, Svante Ingelsson and Olaf Kobacki looking particularly interesting.

And the arrival of Valery from Angers can bring drastic improvements for an Owls player.

Pol Valentin’s situation at Sheffield Wednesday after the arrival of Yan Valery

Sheffield Wednesday had only one right-back before Valery’s arrival; Paul Valentine.

The Spaniard was arguably Sheffield Wednesday’s most improved player last season, coming into his own under Rohl in a faster and more exciting side, playing at right-back.

With the arrival of Valery, it gives Valentin some stiff competition for the starting spot.

It also gives Rohl some freedom in terms of form, with Valentin likely to be looked at as the starting right-back in a back-5 and Valery in a back-four after shining for Angers in that set last season.

Either way, Valery’s arrival will likely bring even more out of Valentin, who showed last season that he can cut it in the Championship but still has plenty of room for improvement.

Which other Sheffield Wednesday players could improve in 2024/25

Valentin with Valery for the Sheffield Wednesday first team competition is good for Rohl as he will push both players to improve their games and maintain their form.

We could also see that in the team, probably more in attack now with Josh Windass signing a new contract and Jamal Lowe and Kobacki joining.

Those three, along with the likes of Michael Smith and Bailey Cadamarteri, will have to really prove their worth to Rohl if they want to play regular football next season.

They could also keep the likes of Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba, with Kobacki and Lowe able to play on the wings.

Overall, new signings at Sheffield Wednesday and the new competition for the starting XI can only help the players to grow and improve together.
