Leeds United’s £5m player will leave Elland Road this summer despite Wednesday’s performance

Archie Gray’s move to Tottenham Hotspur is unlikely to end Leeds United’s exits this summer.

Despite the exits of Ian Poveda, Luke Ayling, Lewis Bate, Jack Harrison and Marc Roca, Gray became the first real high-profile departure at Elland Road, with none of that quintet in Leeds’ plans anyway.

His £40m transfer has significantly eased Leeds’ profit and sustainability concerns, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be anyone heading for the exit door.

Captain Liam Cooper looks set to go free, with Jamie Shackleton and Cody Drameh expected to follow.

Other big names like Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto, Georginio Rutter, Glen Kamara and Illan Meslier have also attracted recent interest.

Journalist shares an update on Diego Llorente’s future at Leeds

The sale of Gray now means that Leeds consider themselves to be in a strong position at the negotiating table when it comes to some of their other stars.

Leeds are said to now only listen to offers for the likes of Summerville and Gnonto if they make it clear that a move away is what they want.

However, Leeds are unlikely to show such resistance to keeping hold of Diego Llorente, despite rejecting a bid from Real Betis on Wednesday.

No performances from Llorente on the first day of pre-season is telling enough that both sides see his future as elsewhere, but Leeds won’t just offer him on the cheap.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Inside Elland Road Podcast, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue says it remains a “foregone conclusion” Llorente will leave even after Betis’ first bid was rejected.

He said: “Llorente is almost a foregone conclusion. He will go somewhere, be it Real Betis if they decide to increase their offer, or elsewhere.

“It doesn’t look like his future is at Leeds, which is interesting because I thought the price of centre-backs should go up before the 2022 World Cup.”

How much do Leeds want for Llorente?

Leeds spent around £18million to bring him in from Real Sociedad four years ago and will therefore be keen to squeeze every last penny out of this sale.

It has been suggested that Betis’ first bid for Llorente was around £3.8m, a price similar to that paid for Marc Roca.

Leeds do not want to lose another player for such a low price even if they were “satisfied” with the figure received for the Spanish midfielder.

Instead, it would appear that Leeds are looking for close to £5m to sell Llorente, and hopefully it won’t be long before the two clubs reach an agreement.
