‘Great years are coming’ – Luis Diaz suggests his future is at Liverpool

Amid speculation linking him with moves to both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has now given his biggest hint yet of where his future lies.

The Colombian, who arrived from FC Porto in January 2022 for £37.5m (€45m), is clearly a man in demand.

However, speaking to the club’s media after winning Liverpool’s Player of the Month award for April, Diaz sought to quell such speculation, expressing his contentment at Liverpool and his optimism for the club’s future.

“Great years ahead for the club”

“I’ve grown up a lot,” said Diaz, reflecting on his journey that brought him to Merseyside.

“From the beginning of my career until today, I feel that as the days go by, the years go by, living every experience in every different team, coming to this great club that is Liverpool, you learn a lot.”

The Colombian striker further emphasized his dedication to giving his best for the team, underlining his gratitude for the opportunities he has been given.

“Personally, I will always try to do my best, always try to give 100 percent, always stand out on the pitch, which is what I came (here) to do. I am always grateful to God for every opportunity.”

Underlining his belief in Liverpool’s prospects, Diaz then added: “Great years are coming for the club, I have no doubt about that.”

Diaz’s comments come amid potential turmoil at Liverpool with manager Jurgen Klopp’s imminent departure and Michael Edwards’ return to the job. However, many interpreted Diaz’s sentiments as a reassuring indication of his commitment to the club.

Barcelona cannot afford Luis Diaz

Diaz’s comments come against the backdrop of a rapidly changing transfer landscape across Europe.

Barcelona have been long-term admirers. However, their interest in Athletic Club’s Nico Williams would suggest that Diaz is out of their price range and therefore a move would not be possible in this window.

Also, when Kylian Mbappe finally announced his departure this summer, there were rumors that PSG would deploy Diaz as a replacement on the left side of their front line.

However, the French league is perhaps not the most attractive destination for a player approaching his peak years.

With 13 goals in all competitions this season, including eight in the Premier League, Diaz has been a key figure for Liverpool and has firmly established himself as a star player in a league recognized as the best in the world.

Now, as the Reds prepare to face Aston Villa on Monday, Diaz will be looking to further add to his impressive goal tally and reaffirm his importance to the team.
