The Story of the Wiltshire General Election

As Wiltshire prepares to elect its next MPs, the BBC heard from local voters and candidates about the priorities for the county.

Since 2015, all MPs in Wiltshire have been Tories, but Labor and the Lib Dems are hoping to regain a presence here.

For the first time, the UK Green and Reform Party are fielding candidates in every seat, and there are also some independent and smaller party candidates.

Due to the redrawing of the electoral map, Wiltshire goes from a total of seven to eight MPs, sharing one with Gloucestershire.

BBC local election debates

BBC Radio Wiltshire hosted three election debates for the local area, with questions and topics suggested by our audience via BBC Your Voice Your Vote.

Dentists, social care, housing and trust in politics featured in our county-wide view debate, available on BBC iPlayer or below, with a representative from each of the five main parties.

Radio debates specifically for Swindon and Salisbury are also available on BBC Sounds.

When will we know the local results?

All Wiltshire results will be counted overnight from Thursday to Friday.

Swindon is famous for its quick counts and the South Swindon constituency is expected to be the first in our area to declare in the early hours.

Other parts of Wiltshire take longer, partly because of the distances involved in transporting the ballot boxes.

Expect the full set of county results by Friday morning at 06:00.

We’ll have full live local coverage overnight on bbc.co.uk/wiltshire and on BBC Radio Wiltshire.
