Barry Bannan makes Danny Rohl claim every Sheffield Wednesday fan will agree

Barry Bannan was one of the first players to sign a new contract with Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

Fans were left worried as a long list of players neared the end of their contracts, with the Owls’ Championship future in limbo.

However, Danny Rohl has managed to guide Sheffield Wednesday to safety and has so far done a brilliant job of nailing down those stars who have not been signed.

Liam Palmer and Bannan are putting pen to paper very quickly, while Josh Windass and Dominic Iorfa have extended their stays this week.

With the club already six new signings and working on a new contract for Di’Shon Bernard, Rohl is receiving huge praise for his first summer as head coach.

The German signed his own long-term deal in May and Bannan believes the Owls will not make a “bigger” signing than the manager himself.

Danny Rohl is Sheffield Wednesday’s ‘biggest signing’

Speaking to The Star, Bannan said: “It was massive.

“Even small things like people not having a contract could help them stay for next season, it could make it easier for them because they know who the manager is. So signing him for two more seasons was a big mental boost for the club. And it helps attract players as well if we’re going to sign them.

“You saw his caliber at the Euros when he was commentating and his profile is massive. That helps when it comes to signing players. I think she’s been the biggest signing for the club this summer and even if we sign more players now, I don’t think they’ll be bigger than the manager who stays.”

Where would the owls be without him?

Windass previously admitted that Rohl’s contract could decide whether he stays at Hillsborough, while he hailed him as the best manager he has ever worked with.

The attraction of Rohl became so evident in the two months since the end of the season and it is hard to think what would have been the situation of the club if he had left.

Wednesday certainly wouldn’t have made most of the signings they have, while only managing to tie down one or two players to new deals.

He has completely transformed the present and future for the Yorkshire outfit, while fans can head into the new campaign filled with excitement rather than doubt.
