Birmingham City ‘in talks’ to sign Swedish star Emil Hansson from Heracles

Birmingham City are in talks to sign Swedish winger Emil Hansson from Heracles, according to a report from Expressen.

The Swedish News Institute say a deal worth around £1.5m has been agreed between the Blues and Hansson’s club. The 26-year-old is said to be in talks with the Blues over an “unexpected” move to England.

Hansson has just enjoyed a strong season in the Dutch top flight with Heracles, scoring five goals and registering six assists in 24 games. Hansson is credited with 16 goals and 19 assists in 36 games as Heracles won promotion to the Eredivisie in 2022/23.

He most recently represented Sweden’s under-21 teams, but Hansson was born in Norway and played for their youth teams from under-16 to under-19 level. His father is former Swedish player Patrik Hansson, and his grandfather, Tommy Svensson, played and managed Sweden’s senior team.

The Blues have already added Ryan Allsop, Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Alfie May to their ranks this transfer window. They came close to signing Dutch defender Mike Eerdhuijzen before the deal fell through and cast their recruiting net further.

The club is using the data to inform its decisions in a bid to build a promotion-winning squad for manager Chris Davies. Hansson would strengthen Davies’ attacking options and is capable of playing either on the wing or through the middle.
