Anthony Gordon’s agent ‘pushing hard’ for Liverpool – Liverpool FC transfer

With Newcastle needing to raise funds before the June 30 PSR deadline, Anthony Gordon’s agent is said to have “pushed hard” for a move to Liverpool.

We know Newcastle needed to sell players as they tried to raise money to avoid punishment for breaching Premier League profit and sustainability rules.

They eventually made deals to sell Yankubah Minteh for £30m to Brighton and Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest for £35m – a price that raised more than a few eyebrows.

That was not before Anthony Gordon was offered to Liverpool, who are described by TelegraphLuke Edwards is “warm in their interest”.

The journalist writes: “There have been talks with Liverpool about Gordon, whose agent is pushing for him to move to his boyhood club before the June 30 deadline.

“The player, according to multiple Newcastle sources, wanted the transfer to go through and spoke to team-mates about it while on England duty at the Euros.”

Gordon, who is represented by Unique Sports Group, was keen on a move but the transfer did not happen because the Reds “failed to make an offer and the figures being talked about were so small that they would not have contributed significantly to PSR deficit. .”

Edwards has now described how Newcastle are “concerned about his state of mind ahead of his return to the club”, having been “banned from his dream move to his boyhood club”.

Newcastle no longer have to sell their player of the year last season and will not want to see one of their star assets leave. However, the Athletic report that “Gordon was extremely keen on the move and was bowled over by the interest shown in him”.

While the 23-year-old is a player of undeniable quality, Liverpool will not be willing to break the bank for him given that they already have several players who can play on the left, such as Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez. .

A trade for Joe Gomez or Jarell Quansah has been part of the negotiations but would seem unlikely given Liverpool’s lack of defenders and the talent they possess.
