Birmingham Airport passengers given ’24 minutes’ warning as summer getaway gets underway

Passengers at Birmingham Airport have been warned to brace for security queues of up to 24 minutes this summer, according to new figures. The information, compiled by claims experts claims.co.uk, ranks the efficiency of UK airports and transport hubs, with Birmingham second only to London Heathrow.

The data shows that Birmingham Airport, which has an annual traffic of 2,635,425 and accommodates 11,479,335 terminal passengers annually, has an average security waiting time of 24 minutes and a complaint score of 54.86 out of 100 .




London Heathrow tops the list despite its annual traffic of 3,174,354 and 79,149,042 passengers at the terminal each year. However, it boasts shorter security wait times of just 20 minutes and a higher claims score of 78.26.

Manchester Airport was ranked fifth with an annual traffic of 1,919,394 and 28,077,659 terminal passengers. It matches Birmingham’s security queue time of 24 minutes, but falls short with a claims score of 50.45.

Leeds Bradford have moved up to fourth place, reports Birmingham Live.

Leeds Bradford, with an annual traffic of 2,279,643 and 3,989,405 terminal passengers, suffers from the longest security queue times at 35 minutes and has a complaint score of 51.43. Bristol was third with an annual traffic of 2,260,423 and 9,911,879 terminal passengers.
