Three players should be targeted for Leeds United if Glen Kamara completes shock move from Rennes

Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara has reportedly agreed personal terms with Rennes.

Kamara is someone Leeds do not want to lose this summer, but speculation in France continues to grow that he could leave after just one season.

After Archie Gray’s move to Tottenham, Leeds have already lost their only other box-to-box midfield option, so losing Kamara would leave them very short.

Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev would be the only two recognized midfield options at Leeds, although both are at their best when in front of the back four.

So with Kamara potentially on the way out, here are three midfielders Leeds should look to target to strengthen that area of the pitch.

Oliver Skipp – Tottenham

An obvious starter given the interest already there is Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp, who is further down the pecking order in north London following Gray’s arrival.

Leeds tried to include Skipp as part of the deal that took Gray to Spurs but were told no. However, this does not mean that a deal is completely out of the question.

Skipp is well known to Leeds manager Daniel Farke having worked together at Norwich City and the two share a strong mutual respect for each other.

Potential Premier League interest could scupper a deal if Skipp is allowed to leave, but Leeds’ hope is that Farke can tempt him into the Championship.

While Skipp isn’t necessarily the goalscoring midfielder Leeds need, his partnership with Ampadu would give Farke the league’s strongest pairing at a distance.

Lewis O’Brien – Nottingham Forest

Perhaps a more realistic option is Nottingham Forest’s Lewis O’Brien, who again looks set for a move to the Championship this summer.

O’Brien had a decent campaign on loan at Middlesbrough last season and is also attracting interest from Norwich and Luton Town, according to Alan Nixon.

The 25-year-old is very fit box-to-box and has a better eye for goal than Kamara, who is notorious among the fanbase for his reluctance to shoot.

Leeds have been linked with O’Brien in recent summers but he never made it to Elland Road. Maybe this window could be different.

Gabriel Sara – Norwich City

Arguably the most ambitious option is Norwich’s Gabriel Sara, who could be away from Leeds this summer as they are still in the Championship.

Sara is likely to cost in excess of £20m, but is exactly what Leeds need in midfield after hitting double figures for goals and assists last season.

However, with Gray earning £40m, the profit that could be made on Kamara and others such as Crysencio Summerville linked to big money exits, Leeds are in need of some branded replacements .

Sara can play as a number 10 or number eight and given that Leeds need both, it would kill two birds with one stone. If Leeds pull this off it would be incredible.
