Liverpool transfer news as $128m ‘talks open’, Leny Yoro exits ‘boost’

In just 43 days, Liverpool will kick off the new Premier League season with a trip to Ipswich Town to face newly promoted side. Here’s Liverpool.com’s verdict on the transfer gossip swirling around the Reds today. We start with a big statement about Anthony Gordon after the intense speculation surrounding him over the weekend.

Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United)

Liverpool have entered transfer talks for Newcastle United striker Anthony Gordon, with the Magpies demanding a fee of $128m (£100m/€118m) for the 23-year-old. Around three-quarters of this huge sum would be guaranteed, with the rest coming in the form of supplements, it is claimed. It remains the case that there is zero chance of Liverpool allowing Jarell Quansah to leave in part-exchange.

There is long-term interest in Gordon from Liverpool, but it would take a huge fee to convince Newcastle to sell him now. With two years left on England’s contract, however, it is possible that this could be revisited in the future.

Liverpool.com says: Gordon would be a top signing for Liverpool if the Reds could pull it off. If he doesn’t sign a new contract at St James’ Park, maybe something could be done for a more realistic amount of money.

Leny Yoro (Lille)

While Real Madrid remain in pole position to sign Leny Yoro this summer, they are reluctant to pay the asking price that has been set by Lille. The Ligue 1 side want $65m (£51m/€60m), even though he only has one year left on his contract.

As a result, GiveMeSport suggested that Liverpool have an advantage in the race for the player as they would be willing to splash out more than the Spanish side. However, the big problem is that Yoro has his heart set on the Bernabeu. Unless he changes, he looks unlikely to make it to Anfield.

Liverpool.com says: While it may be true that Liverpool are lurking in the background for Yoro and Lille would rather cash in than lose the 18-year-old on a free, it’s possible they’ll wait a year and move then . If he wants Real Madrid as much as they say, the Reds may end up having to look elsewhere.
