Coventry City target confirms ‘interest’ and reveals current status of potential deal

Coventry City goalkeeper Oliver Dovin confirmed “interest” from the Championship club but laughed off claims he was in England to complete any move, insisting there had been no offers for him.

Reports in the Swedish media this week claim the Sky Blues are “working hard” to sign Hammarby’s No.1, saying he is the club’s “top priority” in the transfer window, according to Sport Bladet.

Now Fotbollskanalen report that the Sweden international “may leave Hammarby” and say the 21-year-old has confirmed City’s interest, saying: “A good club and a good league.”

The report states that Hammarby “looks set to sell Oliver Dovin”. Dovin is said to have attended Thursday’s training session with Hammarby in Årsta and is now confirming the English club’s interest, saying: “Yes. I heard there is interest from that club.

“But I have a contract with Hammarby right now and therefore there is no need to speculate about other clubs.”

After another outlet, Aftonbladet, wrote about the interest on Wednesday, there was much speculation on social media. Something that Dovin took part in.

“I read somewhere that I was supposed to be in England yesterday,” he said. “I laughed when I saw it. I was here. I trained here yesterday and then had dinner at Södermalm. So it was fun to be home and read it.”

Asked if he plans to visit another club, he replied: “Not as it looks now. There is interest, but Hjelmberg (sporting director) said there have been no offers and I don’t know anything about whether offers have been made. So I’m focusing on Hammarby.”

Asked if he was going to play against Gais in the Swedish top flight on Sunday (July 7), he said: “Yes, I think so.”

But when asked if the time was right for him to take the next step in his career, he added: “It absolutely could be. I think I’ve made big strides in the last year and I’ve been doing well. Going abroad is not something I am closing the door on now.”

Asked what part of his game has developed the most over the past year, he said: “It’s probably my aerial game, but mostly I’ve been steady and more consistent in my performance.”

Told he had also been linked with Belgian clubs Anderlecht and Kortrijk, as well as MLS clubs, he said: “I don’t know anything.”

Meanwhile, Hammarby sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg had the following to say about the interest in Dovin on Wednesday, reports Fotbollskanalen: “We have one of the best goalkeepers in the Allsvenskan (Sweden’s top division) and as it looks now, we don’t have offers for Oliver and negotiations are not ongoing. We are very pleased with him. What happens then (if he’s sold) we’ll have to deal with then.”

The report says that Hammarby have identified a replacement in the form of Warner Hahn, 32, who has experience at IFK Gothenburg.
