By Harrison Galliven, Local Democracy Reporter

The work tightened his grip on London after taking the new seat of Croydon West with Sarah Jones as MP.

Croydon West was created following the 2023 electoral boundary changes and takes parts of the old one Croydon Central seat that Ms Jones has represented since 2017. She won her new seat with 20,612 votes and a majority of 14,226.

When asked about her priorities for Croydon West, Ms Jones focused on three key issues. She said: “Crime, the town center and the NHS must be our top priorities, but there are so many things that can be done better with good government.

“We can work together with the new Labor government to bring about some changes Croydon whether we’re seeing crime or anti-social behaviour, whether it’s the housing problems that so many people face in Croydon West, whether it’s the cost of living or people waiting on the NHS, we really need to get down to business to try to do like humans. live better.”

Asked about her party’s success across the country, Ms Jones said she was excited to get down to work and act on the desire for change she had met at constituency doors.

She said: “I hope we can form a serious government that looks at these issues properly and actually tries to tackle them and deliver them for Croydon West.”

Ms Jones was on a very busy stage when the results were presented this morning. Croydon West had a total of eight candidates, including some from fringe parties such as the Socialist and Trade Union Coalition (TUSC) and the Croydon-based Taking the Initiative Party (TTIP).

The Conservatives’ Simon Fox came second, securing 6,386 votes. Both TUSC’s Ashley April Jacqueline and the Workers’ Party’s Ahsan Ullah were not present when the results were announced.
