Bristol’s most dangerous streets according to police data

Someone is physically attacked or sexually assaulted on average once every three days on Bristol’s most violent street.

According to police figures, 1.6 million violent crimes and sex offenses were committed on the streets and neighborhoods of England and Wales last year, including around 27,500 in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. These offenses include a wide range of crimes against the person such as common assault, GBH (causing grievous bodily harm), rape, sexual assault and other sexual offences.

Across the country, there were almost 900 streets last year where there were at least 52 of these crimes – meaning someone was attacked, on average, once a week. But physical and sexual assaults are far more common on the nation’s most dangerous streets.

Avon and Somerset Police said the crime category of “violent crime and sexual offences” includes a wide range of offenses and that this statistic does not represent physical assaults, adding that it does not mean these areas are unsafe.

Last year, 135 crimes were recorded “on or near” Lanes End in Bristol’s Brislington district. That’s the equivalent of three attacks a week, or one every 2.7 days.

Lanes End was followed by “on or near” Eastley Close in Thornbury North, South Gloucestershire, where 87 murders were recorded. The third common was “on or near” Whitchurch Lane, in Hartcliffe, Bristol and “on or near” Alexandra Parade in Weston Town, North Somerset (80 on both streets).
