Virginia Weather Alert: Heat index along I-95 will top 110 degrees

Wakefield, VA – Virginians should brace themselves for another dangerously hot day today, especially in areas along and east of I-95. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings as heat index values ​​are expected to approach or exceed 110 degrees.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially in eastern parts of the state, may provide some relief from the intense heat later this afternoon, according to the NWS. Areas including Richmond, Tappahannock and Norfolk are under excessive heat warnings, with highs expected to reach between 107 and 113 degrees.

Residents are advised to take precautions against heat illness. It is recommended to stay indoors, stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activities during peak hours. For those who must be outside, wearing light, loose clothing and taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments is crucial.

Looking ahead, the weather in Wakefield is expected to remain warm, with temperatures set to cool after today. Sunday will see a high of 93 degrees, while Monday brings a 40 percent chance of rain with temperatures around 92 degrees. The chance of rain continues through midweek, providing a respite from the heat, with highs ranging from 91 to 94 degrees.
