Man arrested after 60-year-old patient dies at Cornwall hospital

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a patient at a Cornwall hospital.

Officers say they were called to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Treliske, near Truro, following the death of a patient in her 60s on Wednesday.

Devon and Cornwall Police say the death is being treated as “suspicious”.

A spokesman for the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust described the death as “unexpected”.

A 30-year-old man from the Par area of ​​Cornwall has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police say they believe the woman and the suspect are acquaintances.

“Enquiries are underway to locate and inform her next of kin,” the spokesman added.

Police cordoned off a property in connection with the investigation.

In a statement, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust added: “We can confirm that we are assisting Devon and Cornwall Police in their investigation into the unexpected death of a patient at Royal Cornwall Hospital.”
