“I let my daughter swear and skip school – it doesn’t make me a bad parent” | My news from London

A mother has gone viral on TikTok for her unconventional set of rules for her children, which include a relaxed approach to swearing. Abbey Fickley has set out five key areas where her approach to raising her children is quite different from the norm.

Abbey has unique beliefs when it comes to her children using swear words, dubbing certain words as “home words”. This means her children can only use them in the privacy of their own home. She explained her reasoning: “This is a privilege, so if you use a swear word to be rude to another person, that privilege is revoked. Ultimately, I want to be the person who teaches my daughter context, including swearing.”

Interestingly, despite having the freedom, her daughter doesn’t actually swear, leading Abbey to believe that doing something that isn’t forbidden makes her less attractive to children.

Abbey said her children’s mental health is a big priority for her as a parent

Mental health is another priority for Abbey. Taking care of her children’s mental health takes priority over school in her household, Abbey allows her children mental health days off when they need to relax, Express US reports.

“Your mental health is more important to me and I want you to know that I listen to you when you communicate with me and I want to reward you for that communication.”

When it comes to playdates, Abbey is simple: respect is a must, both for her children and herself, from other children and parents alike. She said: “I really didn’t work that hard for this house to not be filled with love and laughter.”

Ultimately, when it comes to adults interacting with her daughter, Abbey prioritizes safety over conforming to authority figures. She doesn’t want her child to blindly accept orders just because they come from a powerful person.
