Livid locals say Jaguar Land Rover’s bulldozing of old Coventry buildings is ‘erasing history’

Livid locals say losing old Jaguar Land Rover buildings is like ‘Erasing history’. CoventryLive reported that the old warehouse and office at Sayer Drive is to be demolished.

These works start on the former Brown’s Lane site in just a few days and will pave the way for a ‘mix and range of retail space in the area. Property group Goodman last week received approval from Coventry Council to demolish the buildings.

But this decision was not welcomed by all. In fact, the loss of the buildings, which played a role in the city’s proud car manufacturing past, upset some.

On the CoventryLive Facebook page, Viv Gregory posted: “It feels like they’re trying to erase history,” while Suney Sgh said: “So sad I worked there at Lawrence Automotive in the same view as the suppliers parts from 2014 doing parts for Jags and Land Rovers before it went under.”

Graham D Prebble added: “Some proto-builds have been made there… Definitely a unique place.”

Work will begin on Monday (July 8) to unlock the buildings at Browns Lane and is due to finish at the end of October.
