Cardiff City transfer news as midfielder on the brink of exit and Sheffield United enter Moore race

Here’s a roundup of the latest Cardiff City news for Saturday 6th July.

Antwi heads for the exit

Newport County are in advanced talks over a move for Cardiff City midfielder Cameron Antwi.

Antwi joined Cardiff from Blackpool in 2022 but has struggled to make an impact in the capital, making just one senior appearance for the club.

The 22-year-old’s only appearance for the Bluebirds came via a four-minute cameo in the FA Cup last season, but he has never played in the Championship.

Antwi’s contract with the Bluebirds expired earlier this week and City had put a new contract on the table in a bid to keep him in the capital.

However, he could now be set to ditch the EFL in search of game time.

Sheffield United join the race for Moore

Sheffield United have joined the race for Cardiff City target Kieffer Moore.

The Bluebirds made moves to try and sign the Wales international in January, only for him to opt for a move to Ipswich Town, which would later seal promotion to the Premier League.

Cardiff’s admiration for Moore remains strong, but they could now face competition for his signature again.

According to journalist Darren Witcoop, Moore is ready to leave the Cherries this summer, adding that Sheffield United are among those hoping to complete a deal.

Macca hoping to develop a positive season

Cardiff City defender Mark McGuinness says he is keen to build on the positives of last season and admits there is still a lot of work ahead of the squad in the coming weeks.

Speaking to Cardiff City TV, he said: “Last season was a positive one for us but there is still a lot of work to do. We know what we have to do and we will work on those things and continue this season. .

“The pre-season is a great opportunity for us to find some things and get some new information on board. We have some good plays in action as well.”

McGuinness spent a substantial part of the second half of the season on the treatment table but returned to action on the final day, making a brief cameo against Rotherham United.

“It’s not nice not being involved and watching from the sidelines. It was a bit frustrating for me. I wanted to finish the season strong and I did what I could to try and come back for the last game.

“I’m glad I did, even if it was just a few minutes or a few minutes. But it was nice to have a six-week block to freshen up. Get the body right and I came back to pre-season feeling good. ”
