Barry Bannan is now sharing a three-word message after a classy gesture at Sheffield Wednesday

Barry Bannan shared a three-word message on social media after being thanked for his classy gesture at Sheffield Wednesday.

Barry Bannan is adored in Yorkshire for his nine years with Sheffield Wednesday, while he looks set to make it a decade at the club with a new deal this summer.

The midfielder has not only been praised for his performances on the pitch, having already been hailed for his work with The Children’s Hospital Charity earlier this year.

Bannan raised more than £75,000 for the charity after hosting a fundraising event in Sheffield in March, with journalist Joe Crann praising the Owls captain as an “absolute credit” to the club.

The 34-year-old didn’t stop there though and has now been thanked by Sheffield Wednesday Ladies for his latest gesture.

“Many thanks to Barry”

The ladies team traveled to the New York Stadium to face Rotherham United yesterday and Bannan lent a helping hand before the game.

They wrote on their X account: “All aboard @bazzabannan25 bus! Thanks to Barry who kindly paid for our transport to the stadium in New York today!”

Bannan replied: “All the best.”

The Owls lost 2-0 to their local rivals but still appreciated the Scot’s brave gesture.

Sheffield Wednesday must keep Bannan until retirement

Bannan has been one of Sheffield Wednesday’s most important players on the pitch for years, and it’s moments like these that you realize that being captain comes with more responsibility than leading the team in a football match.

The former Scotland international is the perfect role model for the rest of the squad and there’s no doubt he could play a key role if the Owls climb further up the table in the future.

Wednesday desperately need to tie him down to a new contract, and if they can do that then we will surely see Bannan retire at Hillsborough.

It’s unclear what his plans are for the future, but if Danny Rohl is still around after this season, then it would be great to see the two on the coaching staff together.

Bannan has been so important to the Owls for years and it would be a shame to see his career end anywhere else.
