The worst paid area of ​​Leicestershire in the whole country

New figures suggest average wages in every Leicestershire area last year were below the national average. And one area in particular had the lowest average wages in the entire country.

The national average wage last year was £34,963 – almost six per cent higher than in 2022. But when the country is broken down into council areas, at the bottom of the list are Oadby and Wigston, where working residents took home an average average salary. of just £24,337 a year – the lowest in the UK.




Next from the bottom was Torbay in Devon, where they earned almost £3,000 more a year, averaging £27,116 a year. In Leicestershire, the highest paid area was the Blaby district – but even there people were several hundreds of pounds short of the national figure, earning an average of £34,626.

Unexpectedly, the borough of Harborough – which has the highest house prices in Leicestershire – came fifth out of the eight Leicestershire boroughs. The second lowest paid borough was Melton, followed by the City, third from the bottom.

Averaging all the figures to give regional wages, the figures show that London had the highest average pay packet last year at £44,370, and the lowest wages were in the North East, where salaries are £31,200 pounds, followed by the East Midlands with £31,634. .
