Joshua Zirkzee at Manchester United latest as Arsenal position explained

Manchester United are on the hunt for a new striker this summer and their top target appears to be keen on a move to Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag got a new centre-forward last summer – but it wasn’t Harry Kane, the man many fans wanted.

Manchester United instead went in a different direction, bringing in a promising but raw striker in Rasmus Hojlund.

There were ups and downs for Hojlund last season, but the Dane showed enough potential for United to feel excited about his future.

However, United must go and invest in another striker this summer.

Anthony Martial has moved on and his absence in December simply showed that Hojlund needs more support in the final third.

Manchester United’s position on Joshua Zirkzee’s release clause

United could once again go two ways; a proven scorer to help Hojlund or another exciting talent who could become a star.

United look set to go the latter route again, with Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee wanted.

The Dutchman scored 11 times in Serie A last season, helping Bologna qualify for the Champions League.

Zirkzee has shown huge potential as a centre-forward, possessing remarkable size and strength as well as impressive technical ability.

The 23-year-old has become United’s main target in attack and reporter Ben Jacobs claims he is eyeing a deal.

Jacobs claims United officials have already told Bologna they are willing to meet Zirkzee’s £34m release clause.

Euro 2024 is still front and center for Zirkzee as he and the Netherlands continue to prepare for a semi-final clash with England.

Kia’s agent Joorabchian is understood to be in talks with United, however, and is demanding around €10m (£8.5m) as a deal fee.

AC Milan have backed away from those demands, but United are now left to decide whether or not to step up and meet Joorabchian’s demands.

Zirkzee wants Manchester United over Arsenal

A potential deal to sign Zirkzee could go ahead once Euro 2024 is out of the way, but the striker appears keen on the move.

Caught Offside claim that Zirkzee has “prioritised a move” to Old Trafford and would reject offers from other clubs, including Arsenal.

The Gunners are understood to be keen on Zirkzee as they look to bring in a new striker this summer.

However, Zirkzee prefers a move to United and would turn down both Arsenal and Milan in favor of a link-up with compatriot Ten Hag.

That certainly gives United an advantage in the race for Zirkzee, but it may all come down to the money required of Joorabchian’s agent.

Talks will no doubt continue in the coming days, with United no doubt knee-jerk to secure Zirkzee as competition for Hojlund for years to come.
