Who is Ethan Wheatley? Manchester United include the U18 goal machine in the squad against Sheffield United

Manchester United youngster Ethan Wheatley was back on the first-team bench on Wednesday night, 24 hours after scoring for the under-18s in the Premier League Cup final.

The striker has been a regular for the Under-18s and Under-21s this season. He has scored eight times in seven Premier League U18 games this season, as well as two more in Premier League 2.

Rasmus Hojlund has kept his place at center forward at Old Trafford, but Wheatley is the only recognized striker on the bench. Having scored twice for the Under-18s, the forward will be full of confidence against one of the worst defenses in the Premier League.

Who is Ethan Wheatley?

The striker has been a regular for the Under-18s and Under-21s this season. He has scored eight times in seven Premier League U18 games this season, as well as two more in Premier League 2.

Wheatley signed his professional contract in January and is destined to be a name United fans will be familiar with for years to come. The 18-year-old scored both goals against Manchester City in front of new technical director Jason Wilcox and Wayne Rooney on Tuesday night.

Two against City took his tally to 20 goals for the season. After being in the squad for the 2-2 draw with AFC Bournemouth, Wheatley was part of Erik ten Hag’s squad for Sunday’s dramatic FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry.

Stockport-born Wheatley is yet to make his senior debut for the Reds, but Wednesday’s Premier League clash with Sheffield United could provide his opportunity to do so.
