LIVE transfer news: Arsenal face Calafiori delay, Liverpool confirm sale, De Ligt to Man Utd latest

New Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has explained the lack of transfer activity following Arne Slot’s arrival as manager.

“When there are major competitions in the summer – a European Championship, the Copa America and the Olympics as well – there is a lot of football being played, of course the focus will be there,” Hughes told a news conference on Friday.

“And I think after the explosion (at Premier League level) that happened in June, it will calm down a bit now. That would be my forecast for the month of July.

“And then, as always, when August starts and the coaches have had more time to work with the players, I think that’s when the views will be more settled at the football clubs. And then you might see a situation in August, as in previous seasons, it’s a situation. a little rush to get things done and make sure everyone’s teams are in order.

“I don’t think it will be any different, but who knows what will happen from an economic point of view? It’s hard to say and I speak for other clubs. But it was probably like that in June and why things happened like that how they happened. But I would see a quiet July and then maybe a crescendo in August would probably await us all.”
