Manchester United have ‘taken concrete steps’ to sign – Manchester City could now swoop in

A few days ago we covered the claims from Portugal which stated that Manchester United were willing to pay around €70m for Joao Neves, but that Benfica were still holding €100m or more for the midfielder.

PSG were also said to be willing to pay something in the region of €70m, and of course that wouldn’t be enough for them either.

Sunday’s edition of O Jogo magazine reveals that Joao Neves is “getting going” at Manchester City as the club face the possibility of losing Kevin De Bruyne this summer.

The Belgium international has sent very mixed messages about his future this summer, at one point hinting at a move and at another saying he will stay.

Joao Neves would be a different profile to De Bruyne, and O Jogo explains that it is a consideration anyway, as the young midfielder is seen as a star of the future.

Manchester United have “taken concrete steps” towards the signing, the report reiterates, and their rivals Manchester City are yet to reach that stage.

Regardless, if Benfica’s demand for the 19-year-old remains at €100 million or more, then it’s unlikely any Manchester club will accept it.
