Scott Wright latest Rangers exit as Sheffield Wednesday boss breaks silence on strike

RANGERS ace Scott Wright has been heavily linked with a move to Sheffield Wednesday.

But Owls boss Danny Rohl was unwilling to offer much, despite reports claiming it is almost a done deal.

It has already been a summer of major upheaval at Rangers.

Several big names have left the club, including Borna Barisic and John Lundstram, while Philippe Clement has already found six new faces.

Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane became the latest capture just a few days ago.

But business is certainly not done, both in terms of income and outgoings at Ibrox.

Doubts continue over the futures of captain James Tavernier and Connor Goldson, who have been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

SunSport also revealed that Todd Cantwell is a player the Gers are willing to listen to.

And Scott Wright could be on his way out.

The 26-year-old former Aberdeen player has been linked with English Championship side Sheffield Wednesday and there have been suggestions that a deal is close to being done.

However, Wednesday manager Danny Rohl refused to be drawn into the situation when he spoke directly about Wright.

Speaking to the local BBC after overseeing a 2-0 friendly win over Alfreton, Rohl tried to deflect an initial question about Wright.

Rangers star Todd Cantwell channeled the Hollywood icon in his latest cryptic social media post

He was asked, “Scott Wright, is this almost done?”

Rohl replied: “What’s next? We’re still some places to go, we know that, but I think it’s been a good start in pre-season to have a good group together and from this point on, we’re hoping to find the next players.”

Undeterred, the reporter went back for more, adding: “Could it be next? Wright from the Rangers?”

Rohl, however, remained firm and replied: “I’m not going to talk about the name because it doesn’t make sense. This market moves so fast. We have an idea of who we want to have, I have an idea of how I want to play in the new season.

“We know what we need to improve when we look back from last season and then it’s about finding the right pieces to make our team stronger and stronger as we are very ambitious for the new season.”

Rangers, meanwhile, took their pre-season campaign and ran away with a behind-closed-doors win over Hamilton Accies.

The Blues beat the Championship side 5-2 at their training ground.

Despite speculation surrounding his future, Wright appeared in the game AND scored one of the goals.

Todd Cantwell, Cyriel Dessers, Ross McCausland and Cole McKinnon took the others.

The Gers need a new striker – but it’s Danilo’s time to shine

By KRIS BOYD

RANGERS supporters are desperate for a new No 9 to arrive this summer.

I’d be amazed if Philippe Clement didn’t make that position a priority.

But let’s not forget the £5million striker who is already at Ibrox.

Danilo was Michael Beale’s signing this time last year and arrived with a big reputation.

The Brazilian lists Ajax, FC Twente and Feyenoord on an impressive resume.

He scored goals in the Dutch top flight and came with a hefty transfer fee by Scottish standards.

But unfortunately we all know what happened next as injury ruined his debut season at the Gers.

A broken cheekbone was followed by knee surgery – and Danilo has yet to kick a ball in 2024.

He played just 11 times under Clement and was sorely missed in the title game.

I think Rangers need to bring in another top striker this summer.

But I also wouldn’t be surprised if Danilo continues to justify the money Gers paid him last year.

Beale saw him as his No.1 striker and there’s no doubt Clement felt the same after taking over.
