Former England international raves about Archie Gray after Leeds United transfer exit

Archie Gray has been tipped for stardom after leaving Leeds United for Tottenham Hotspur. The 18-year-old completed a £40m switch to the North London club on Tuesday, ending his long association with the Whites.

Gray, who played over 50 times for United in their run to the Championship play-off final last season, said Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou played a key part in his move to the Premier League club. He is a self-confessed Celtic fan and enjoyed watching them in action when Postecoglou managed the Scottish giants.

Ex-England international Stan Collymore has spoken highly of Gray’s qualities, tipping the teenager to shine at the highest level. “Archie Gray is already nearing half a century of performances at just 18, so he will know what he’s about as a player,” wrote Collymore in his Caught Offside column. “He’s a big lad as well, six foot two, and he’s only going to get bigger, stronger and more versatile in the next two or three years.

“I think he will go on potentially and play for England, although he’s eligible for Scotland as well. I imagine that whoever the next England manager is, he will be watching over the next season or two at Spurs, but they may well call him up for the England senior squad sooner rather than later.

“Personally, I think it’s a great move. I’m a massive fan of Tottenham, the way that their academy has done things.

“Archie Gray and his family are all Celtic fans and love Ange, so I’m really excited. I think it’s the right player, the right move, the right club at the right time and I think that he will get opportunities to play. The world’s his oyster.”

Although Gray is eligible to play for Scotland, the country his father and grandfather represented during their playing days, the youngster has stated his desire to represent England in the future. He has already been capped by England’s Under-21s side.
