Ipswich want the Leeds target long-term but surely the time is finally right to lure him to Elland Road.

Over the past few years, a lot of names have featured prominently in Leeds United’s transfer column, such as Rodrigo De Paul, Nahitan Nandez, Noa Lang and many more players.

But one has emerged more than most and at the moment it looks like he will be leaving the current squad and Ipswich Town are said to be battling two Championship clubs for his signature ahead of the deadline.

Leeds need wings at the moment. The Whites are said to be focusing much of their time on trying to find a new addition, with Jaidon Anthony and Ian Poveda already set to leave the club this summer.

That leaves Dan James, Willy Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville. But the latter two are expected to be the subject of bids this summer, with Nottingham Forest said to have submitted a £16.9m bid for Gnonto.

Summerville has clubs such as Liverpool, Chelsea, Bournemouth, West Ham and Fulham following him. Brighton are said to have opened talks to land the Dutchman, the 23-24-year-old Championship player of the season.

Leeds need wings as Gnonto and Summerville are likely to go

So Leeds need a player or two this summer, especially if Gnonto and Summerville leave. If one goes, you can expect the other to go, given that they are close friends, as seen in the recent Leeds training video.

Back to Marcelo Bielsa’s era as Leeds manager, and Ryan Kent was a name constantly linked with Leeds while at Rangers. After promotion, Rangers rejected a £10m bid from Leeds to sign Kent.

Well, now the Englishman is set to leave Fenerbahce after a nightmare year in Turkey. Ipswich are keen on Kent, according to The Mirror’s Darren Witcoop, as are two other Championship sides in the running for Kent.

Witcoop said: “Ryan Kent is ready to leave Fenerbahce. Exploring all options. Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna a big fan of the former Glasgow Rangers winger. Two Championship clubs are also very much in the mix.”

The timing is right for Leeds to finally sign Kent this summer

Beforehand, Kent was probably thought of as a Premier League winger and Leeds had to pay out of the nose to get him. North of £10m given the rejected offer, but will now be available on the cheap.

Fenerbahce took him for nothing when he let his Ibrox contract lapse before leaving on a free. This will allow Fener to sell him for a small fee, given that everything they do on Kent will be a profit this summer.

A move to Ipswich could see him on the bench given the presence of Conor Chaplin, Wes Burns and Omari Hutchinson. A high-flying Championship club in need of wings is perfect, as are Leeds.
