Kate Garraway is in ‘constant pain’ after losing husband Derek, says GMB co-star

Britain’s Good Morning’s Kate Garraway is battling “constant grief” after the loss of her husband Derek Draper, co-host Charlotte Hawkins said.

Speaking to Best Magazine, Charlotte spoke candidly about Kate’s resilience and how their ITV clan have ‘pulled together’, sticking up for the ‘I’m A Celeb’ star during her time of grief. Charlotte expressed: “When Kate lost her husband Derek in January, everyone came together to support her. He went through an extraordinarily difficult period”.

Continuing to tag the conversation, she added: “When you lose someone you love very much, it’s a constant pain. You wonder what the way forward will be, it’s not a problem to get over it, but to learn to live with it.”

Derek passed away from long-term complications from Covid aged just 56, leaving Kate and their children Darcey and Billy behind. Praise for Kate’s strength was not uncommon in Charlotte’s speech, as she shed light on Kate’s perseverance in raising her children in the face of the loss of her precious partner, saying: “It will take time for Kate to heal but she knows we are . everything here for her.”

In addition to more recent events, this month saw Kate heartbroken when she saw just one voting card in the post, a memento of her late husband and curiously none for herself. Her daughter, Darcey, who recently turned 18, didn’t get a card either, the Daily Star reports.

Kate revealed: “I’m in a situation, I was really excited about it, I thought me and my daughter, who recently turned 18, could go and vote for the first time. Now he says he doesn’t think he did. Register correctly. The voting cards came through the door, I didn’t have one for me or her.

“Is there any way around this because there are a lot of people saying ‘I didn’t get a card’ or ‘I think I got a card but I can’t remember and I don’t know if I lost it What are you doing with the registration in this late stage ‘Kate was unable to register in time to vote in the 2024 election.

Derek died in January 2024 and sharing the sad news with fans, Kate said: “I am sad to tell you that my beloved husband Derek has passed away.
