Adrian’s touching tribute to Liverpool fans says it all about the cult hero

Adrian has released a video about his time at Liverpool, celebrating the lessons he learned during half a decade with the English giants.

The 37-year-old back-up goalkeeper confirmed his departure from Anfield on Sunday. He made 26 competitive first-team appearances for the Merseyside club after arriving from West Ham in 2019, helping Jurgen Klopp’s side win the Premier League title in 2020.

“In five years, you’ve shown me so many things,” Adrian said. “To wear the Liverpool shirt and defend the Liverpool badge at Anfield should be added to the seven wonders of the world. Those 11 meters are nothing when it comes to winning a title. That London really is Anfield South.

“That tradition is important and should be protected. You’ll Never Walk Alone isn’t just a hymn, it’s a philosophy of life. Now, it’s time to share all these experiences that I’ve learned. I will be grateful to him. you for life.”

Although he rarely saw the pitch, Adrian was present for one of the most successful periods in Liverpool’s history, his departure message paying tribute to several special moments. Adrian made 11 of his 14 top-flight appearances for Liverpool during his Premier League title-winning season – maintaining a rather impressive defensive record, conceding just 10 goals.

Adrian’s joke of calling London “Anfield South” refers to Liverpool’s remarkable dominance of the capital’s clubs during their time there, losing just four away EPL matches against the city’s three biggest teams (Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham) who dates back to 2019. The addition of “11 meters means nothing” likely refers to Adrian’s role in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup, saving Tammy Abraham’s penalty to win a thrilling 7-6 penalty shoot-out and secure a trophy during his first appearance with the club.

Prior to his arrival at Liverpool, Adrian was the top goalkeeper for West Ham United, who enjoyed historic success during the club’s last season at Upton Park. In 2015-16, Adrian made 32 starts as the Hammers finished seventh in the Premier League, their highest finish since 1999.
