Coventry school is celebrating ‘beautiful’ new facilities for children with complex needs

Working at a school for children with complex needs has prepared some shiny new facilities – including a kitchen area. Aldermoor Farm Primary, in Acorn Street, Coventry, has been extended and refurbished with improved resources. The school says this means its youngsters with autism and communication difficulties can be better supported.

And now it will expand the number of pupils attending from eight to 10 starting next academic year in September. Before the end of the current term, an opening ceremony was now held. It was attended by parents, pupils and staff, along with representatives of the local council, which funded the improvements.

Teacher Claire Fields said: “The classroom has been adapted to provide an environment with a safe sensory space that children can use when time away from mainstream learning is needed. In the classroom we also have a kid-friendly kitchen area – a home away from home – where children can learn cooking skills.

“There is a beautiful outdoor space where children can develop their understanding of the world and develop physical and emotional skills through activities such as gardening and forest school. I am very blessed to be able to provide these quality learning experiences.”
