CCTV experts from Enfield Council have helped police make arrests following three serious incidents caught on camera.

Staff at the council’s CCTV operations centre, known as the Enfield Public Safety Center (EPSC), in Edmonton alerted police to the incidents.

On June 1, there was a robbery in Town Park. An EPSC operator scanned the area with the camera and saw two suspects running towards the bus stop who boarded a 231 bus.

The bus was followed on camera to Morrisons Park in Southbury Road with comments to police. An unmarked armed police response unit monitored the suspects from a distance. Both suspects met two other unknown men in the parking lot.

One man was found in possession of a revolver pistol and a machete and the other men were found in possession of Class A drugs. The suspects were arrested and the vehicle was impounded due to the drugs found inside and the suspicion that the vehicle was linked to other robberies in the neighborhood.

On June 10, a report of sexual assault was received, also in Town Park. EPSC operators provided police with a description of the suspect over the radio and a sighting was made later that day near Enfield Town Library.

An EPSC operator notified the Metropolitan Police, whose officers were in the area at the time, who identified the suspect and arrested him in the park.

On June 11, a report was made of a group of four young males acting suspiciously on Main Street. EPSC operators monitored the local area and spotted possible suspects and sent an image to the police.

EPSC operators continued to monitor the suspects as they visited a takeaway in Hertford Road, Ponders End. One of the suspects saw a police car and immediately ran away. Officers at the scene detained a suspect on Hertford Road who was found to be in possession of a knife. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Gina Needs, Cabinet Member for Community Cohesion and Enforcement, said: “I would like to thank the hard working staff at the council’s Enfield Public Safety Center for their excellent work and expertise in detecting suspected criminals and assisting the police to make the streets safer. in Enfield.

“EPSC’s award-winning staff monitor the neighborhood 24 hours a day, seven days a week to ensure a safer Enfield for everyone.”
