Four teenagers arrested after boy ‘was chased with machete’ in Leeds estate

Four teenagers have been arrested after a boy was chased with a machete into a property in Leeds, it has been reported.

A large police cordon remains in place around Coldcotes Circus in Gipton following the incident yesterday (Sunday July 7) at 3.04pm. Four youths were seen chasing another into Foundry Approach, two allegedly armed with machetes, then arriving at a shop opposite on Coldcotes Circus.



The four suspects, aged 15, 16, 17 and 18, were later arrested in Brown Hill Terrace, Harehills, on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon by West Yorkshire Police. Three machetes and a handgun were discovered. The teenagers were further arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

All four remain in custody. The boy who was chased spoke to officers and was not injured.

Officers were seen combing grass from their hands and knees on Coldcotes Circus. A force spokesman said: “Police were called at 3.04pm yesterday to reports of four young men seen running in Foundry Approach, Gipton, with two of them armed with machetes. Officers were dispatched to the scene and determined that the four suspects were seen giving chase. another man in a shop in Coldcotes Circus.

“Officers searched the area and subsequently detained four men in Brown Hill Terrace, Harehills. The four, aged 15, 16, 17 and 18, were arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

Three machetes were recovered in Brown Hill Terrace along with what appeared to be a blank-firing weapon that had been converted to modified fire ammunition. The men were further arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. All four remain in custody.

No one was injured during the incident and the young man pursued was identified and spoken to by police. A scene remains in place around Coldcotes Circus and detectives from Leeds District CID are continuing to carry out inquiries into the incident. Officers from the local neighborhood policing team have been notified and are increasing their patrols in the area to keep the community safe.”
