The six Coventry areas earmarked to get new Football Foundation ‘PlayZones’

New ‘PlayZones’ could be installed in six areas across Coventry. It has been revealed that Coventry Council is working with the Football Foundation on a program that will see new specialist playing areas put in place across the city.

Old Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGAs) are set to be transformed into new PlayZones. They don’t just focus on football, the new areas will also host other sports and activities, from basketball to netball, rugby, hockey, and cricket.

The council has created a shortlist of existing MUGAs it thinks should become PlayZones. It has also identified another location which it believes would benefit from the facilities.

The five existing MUGAs that could become PlayZones are:

  • Edgwick Park – Foleshill Road
  • Moat House – Winston Avenue
  • Yardley Street – Hillfields Young People’s Centre
  • Longford Park
  • Jardine Crescent – Tile Hill

There are also proposals for a new ‘PlayZone’ in the Willenhall area.

Gated and only accessed by a Smart Access System, community organizations and sports clubs will be able to hire the new zones, and be given a special code to access the gates.
