E-bike riders hunted after shooting incident in Birmingham city centre

Two e-bike riders are being hunted by police after a shooting incident in a Birmingham cul-de-sac. A gun was fired in Gee Street in Newtown at around 12.20pm on Sunday 30 June.

A man was shot in the shoulder and taken to hospital but has since been released. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports of a shooting at 12.20pm on Sunday June 30 in Gee Street, Hockley. An ambulance, two paramedic officers and a MERIT doctor and paramedic attended the scene.




“Crews assessed and treated a man who suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to the hospital for further care.”

Officers from the West Midlands force “carried out house-to-house enquiries, spoke to witnesses and reviewed CCTV footage”. They are now seeking the public’s help to further investigate the shooting.

The police said: “Two people left the scene on an electric bicycle towards Spitalului Street.” In a statement, a West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We are appealing for information following a shooting in Newtown, Birmingham. On June 30 at around 12.20pm we were called to Gee Street, Newtown, following reports of a firearm being discharged.

“Upon arrival officers found a male with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, for which he was initially treated at hospital but has since been discharged. Two people left the scene on an electric bicycle towards Spitalului street.”

The statement continued: “Since the incident, officers have carried out house-to-house enquiries, spoken to witnesses and reviewed CCTV footage. We are now appealing to the public for information to assist our investigation.
