Yorkshire 2ndXI vs Leeds/Bradford UCCE – Friendly T20 Match Report

By John Virr – 2when Marker X1

On a day that felt like summer, the University won the toss and elected to bowl in the first over of 2 overs.

We were soon in trouble at 23-4 and continued to lose wickets regularly and were bowled out for just 91 in the final over. Will Luxton made 15 including our only 6, Jawad Akhtar 15, Josh Hoyle 11 and Ben Cliff batting at number 9, a career best score of 20.

While the bowling has been good, a number of batsmen may want to think about their shot selection. Calum Fletcher finished with 4-16 and there were 2 wickets each for Henry Pearson and Ben Parker (who played for us last week)

Dom Leech started with a girl but the target was reached in 15th over for the loss of just 3 wickets – all claimed by Dom Bess who finished with 3-20 from his 4 overs.

The second game saw Josh Hen-Boisen replace Matthew Firbank and he was rewarded by taking his first bowling wicket with 4 overs for 28. University batted first and reached 129-5 from 20 overs- uri, six bowlers were used by Yorkshire with 4 of them being spinners. However, it was seamer Ben Cliff who got the plaudits as he finished with 3-18 from his 4 overs.

Noah Kelly made 21 off 16 balls at the top of the order but it was Will Luxton, batting at 4, who played the major innings making 44 off 32 balls with 3 fours and 2 maximums.

Yorkshire reached their target with 3 balls to spare winning by 3 wickets.

Please note that the next action is a 3 day game on Monday the 13thth More on Bradford Park Avenue.
