With a month of concerts prepared at The sounds of the city 2024 in Leeds’ Millenium Square, the honor of opening the series went to the boys from Essex Only thievesriding a crest of popularity, recently supporting American pop-punk stars green day on their UK stadium tour.

Kicking things off for this sold-out show were Essex punk rockers Bad nerves, who certainly wasted no time belting out their sleazy anthems. Roaming through ‘Sorry’, the Essex lads were as comfortable on an outdoor stage in front of a few thousand as they were looking like they’d be tearing it up in an inappropriate rock club. Obnoxiously loud, you can almost imagine the locals wondering what the rest of the summer would be like if this was just the beginning.

The fact that this was one of the first shows of the series to sell out is a testament to how popular it is Only thieves have become in the last twelve months. In fact, judging by the smiles on their faces as they walk out to this sold-out crowd and plenty of homemade banners, you get the impression that even they haven’t gotten over how popular they are. A loud and boisterous start to Sounds of the City, you can almost feel them Muse Meets Royal blood laced guitar sounds reverberating through Leeds city centre.

With more mainstream acts due to grace this very stage over the next few weeks, anyone who thought rock was dead was in for a rude awakening as, along with this sold-out crowd, Nothing But Thieves ensured that Sounds Of the City kicked off in explosive fashion setting the standard for the rest of this summer of shows.
