In collaboration with The Reading Agency, Barnet Libraries are delighted to announce this year’s Summer Reading Challenge: Marvelous Makers!

Developed in partnership with Create, this year’s challenge aims to stimulate children’s imaginations and unleash storytelling and creativity through the power of reading.

From July through September, children participating in Marvelous Makers can discover amazing stories and explore their creativity by participating in fun activities at the library.

Children aged 4-12 can sign up at any Barnet library from Saturday 6 July and throughout the summer holidays. They will need to borrow and read six books from the library to participate in the challenge. Children can read whatever books they like – from chapter books, comics or even informational books. They can also read e-books in the Libby library app or listen to audio e-books in the BorrowBox app.

During library hours, children can collect stickers on their reading journey. They will receive a special certificate and medal when they complete the challenge.

There is an exciting program of events starting with ‘Sign Up Saturday’ at the RAF Museum, Hendon. Summer highlights include a visit from children’s author and illustrator Rob Biddulph, a comics workshop with Beano and Marvel artist Kev F, The dove and the peacock puppet show and workshop, an activity to create a robot story and lots of fun craft activities.

Sign up to the family libraries newsletter for weekly updates on activities and events for children of all ages, www.barnet.gov.uk/librarynewsletters.
