“Put Super League on the map” – Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves set for Las Vegas

It has been confirmed this morning that Wigan Warriors will take on Warrington Wolves next year in Las Vegas with the Super League game set to be part of a four-game showpiece of Rugby League.

The NRL took two games stateside this year to launch their season but for 2025, they’re set to be joined by a Super League game and a Women’s International clash as well.

Wigan Warriors taking on Warrington Wolves will serve as the curtain-raiser for the celebration of Rugby League before Canberra Raiders and New Zealand Warriors do battle, England Woman matches up with Australia for the first time since 2017 and finally, Penrith Panthers clash with Cronulla Sharks .

Those games will run from 1:30 pm until 10:30 pm local time, while English fans will witness the games from 9:30 pm through until 6:30 am in the morning.

It’s a huge commercial opportunity for both teams and for the sport as a whole and now those involved in making it happen have reacted with Wigan Warriors Chief Executive Kris Radlinski being handed the plaudits.

It took huge ambition from the NRL to blaze the trail and take a game to Las Vegas this year but based on the resounding success of that, Super League have now ensured that they have got a piece of the pie.

Moreover, it was something that the NRL actually encouraged as it was revealed last week on Australian radio that the English presence highlighted the need for Super League involvement, with a reported 5,000 English fans in Vegas in early March.

Those involved with making the deal happen have had their say with RL Commercial Director Rhodri Jones labeling it a “mouthwatering prospect”.

Jones said: “To have Betfred Super League featuring when Rugby League returns to Las Vegas in 2025, as well as an historic international fixture for England Women, is a mouthwatering prospect and a huge opportunity for the sport. We are looking forward to working closely with Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, our commercial and broadcast partners and the NRL to ensure the weekend is another massive success.”

It is not just Super League that will be hosted at Allegiant Stadium but also International Rugby League with England Women set to take on Australia for the first time since 2017.

England captain Jodie Cunningham reacted by highlighting the huge development in the sport: “Women’s Rugby League has been on an amazing journey for the last decade – and now we’re heading for Vegas!

“I think it’s fantastic that the NRL have recognized the importance of the women’s game in this way.”

Wigan Warriors are the dominant force in Super League currently so it makes sense for them to be one of the teams that showcased Super League to a wider audience.

CEO Kris Radlinski explained that all at the club were “unanimous” in the decision to head stateside.

He said: “I think many of us in the UK watched the games in Las Vegas earlier in the year and wished they could be a part of it, either playing or supporting. I spoke to my Board about the possibility and there was a unanimous desire to be part of the occasion.”

Meanwhile, Warrington’s CEO Karl Fitzpatrick credited the Super League involvement to Radlinski as he praised Wigan Warriors for their ambition.

“First of all credit must go to Kris Radlinski, Mike Danson and the Board at Wigan for driving this project. When approached about this opportunity we were on board from the outset. This initiative is fully aligned with our Club’s positioning and ambitions.

“Playing in one of the world’s best entertainment destinations at a stunning venue is going to be an exciting and memorable experience for our supporters, players and partners. It will also put Super League on the map in a sports market full of opportunity.

“The Vegas games earlier this year really captured the imagination and showed the Rugby League world what can be achieved by thinking and aiming big – next year it is going to be even bigger and to be part of this concept is going to be really special. “
