Cornish students are in the top 1% of students in the WORLD

A Redruth student is in the top 1% of students globally thanks to achieving full grades on her two-year course. Aimee Paull is Truro College’s joint top performer of all time.

Aimee achieved an unbeatable 45 out of 45 points in her International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma course at Truro College, a score equivalent to five A*s at A level.

Reviewing her results this week and celebrating with the rest of her cohort and lecturers as they gathered at the college for the last time, Aimee said: “I was quite nervous before results day and wasn’t sure what I was going to get. I had to go to university, but I’m very happy.”

The result places Aimee in the top 1% in the world and 2024 marks another incredibly successful year for Truro College’s IB Diploma cohort. The cohort achieved a 92% pass rate, with 77% of students scoring above 30, for an average score of 34.2 – this is well above the overall average score of 30.3.

Truro College is the only provider of the IB Diploma in Cornwall. The IB requires students to excel in a wide range of subjects, engage in critical thinking and complete a range of essays and extended projects. Achieving a perfect score is a rare achievement, highlighting Aimee’s extraordinary capabilities.

“My favorite part of studying IB has been the people I’ve met along the way,” said Aimee. “There are lots of opportunities to try new things and gain new experiences, particularly with CAS (Creativity, Action and Service), which is a part of the IB where students are involved in a range of different activities and – their only project. choice.”
