Three affordable wines from Lidl that an expert says are ‘very good’ – and they cost £4.85

If you’re a fan of wine that costs less than a bus fare, a clever enthusiast has discovered not just one or two, but three very enjoyable wines for under £5.

All are available at your local Lidl and have been recommended by Instagram wine expert Andy Pincott. Better known by his social media handle, “affordablewinehunter,” the wine enthusiast regularly shares low-cost wines with his 68,000 dedicated followers.

As a wine judge for the People’s Choice Awards, Andy knows a lot when he tastes one. Having recently attended a Lidl wine press tasting, the insider said finding three affordable drinking wines was “a big surprise”.

On his Instagram account, he said: “I always try the cheaper wines at a wine tasting but I’m usually excited to get to the end of the line and move on – an extra pound or two on a bottle can bring true dividends. In terms of quality, however, these three were a surprise, and I wasn’t the only one to notice them.”

Adding a small disclaimer to his recommendations, he added: “I’m not saying they’re amazing, but for the price, these are all very drinkable – and if that’s your budget, then this is what I’d recommend,” he reports. Wales Online.

First, the £4.85 Chevalier de Fauvert Sauvignon Blanc caught his eye. He describes it as “surprisingly good for the price”, adding that “French SB is quite different to NZ. It has a bit more body and doesn’t taste as “green”. Worth a try for the price.”

Holding a bottle of Chevalier de Fauvert Chardonnay Pays d’Oc, Andy expressed his surprise: “I was surprised that this is actually Chardonnay. It is very light, refreshing and without oak. Pretty good for £4.85”.
