A 55-year-old man accused of killing a woman appears in court

A young man accused of killing a 55-year-old woman has arrived in court. Gregor Bauld is alleged to have murdered Christine Bauld at her home in The Coppice, Burbage, near Hinckley, on Sunday, March 3.

She was found seriously injured. Emergency services made efforts to save Ms Bauld, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bauld appeared via videolink from prison at Leicester Crown Court today. He did not enter a plea.

Bauld, 22, of no fixed address, is due to return to the same court before Judge Timothy Spencer KC next month for a special hearing to assess his fitness to stand trial. Three experts are scheduled to testify before Judge Spencer during the half-day hearing, after which he will decide whether Bauld is competent to defend himself in a criminal trial.

If he is found not fit to stand trial, a jury will hear the case and be asked to decide whether or not Bauld committed the act of murdering Mrs. Bauld, without finding him guilty of murder. If the judge decides that the defendant should go to trial, it will begin later this year.
