Easyjet, Ryanair and Tui passengers have warned of the “terrifying” new trend.

A strange new trend called “crude dogging” has emerged among long-haul passengers, often young, who choose to sit in silence without interacting with in-flight entertainment screens or consuming food and drinks. This latest mod, which is gaining popularity on social media, sees travelers endure long flights without any digital distractions.

Scientist Mark Williams commented on this trend, saying that while prolonged engagement with digital entertainment can lead to mental fatigue, dogging flights does not offer a solution, Birmingham Live reports. “You’re not really unstimulated when you’re on an airplane,” he said, noting that passengers are still exposed to various noises, such as babies crying and airplane engine hums.

Williams suggested alternative activities, such as coloring, could release serotonin because of the sense of accomplishment it provides. He added: “Your attention is constantly being captured by that other information and it’s being fed into your working memory, so it’s very stressful for our brains.”

Meanwhile, nutritionist Toby King has issued a warning to British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Emirates passengers about the potential dangers of the trend. “The trend calls for sitting still for hours and not consuming food or liquids. This is a recipe for disaster, which could have terrifying consequences.”

Toby issued a stark warning to Jet2, Ryanair, Easyjet, TUI travellers, pointing out: “Airplane cabins have a low level of humidity to begin with and can leave you dehydrated throughout the journey. If you don’t drink water when you fly, it adds fuel to the fire.

“Staying hydrated can help your skin and mucosal cells prevent bacteria from entering your body and makes you more susceptible to infection, especially when you’re surrounded by hundreds of other people in a small area. Getting sick at the start of your holiday is not a great way to start.”

Analyzing the potential risks, he explained: “Immobility and dehydration can increase the risk of a blood clot while traveling, two factors that this trend promotes. If you get a clot while traveling, it can break off and cause blockage of the pulmonary arteries, which is very serious and can cause death This is one of the most dangerous trends I’ve seen on social media in a while and, while it seems innocent and a bit of fun on the surface, this could have deadly consequences. and I would urge people to use common sense when travelling.”
