The car park remains closed as work to replace the dangerous footbridge is about to start

A car park will remain closed as work to replace a dangerous bridge in Warwickshire is about to start. The old footbridge from Radford Road to Newbold Comyn had to be closed last August for safety reasons.

In March this year, the bridge in Leamington Spa was removed and now Warwick District Council has revealed that preparatory work is underway ahead of a new pedestrian and cycle bridge. Acknowledging how long the project had taken, the council said it had to review the timing of the work because of restrictions in place to protect fish during the breeding season.

Councilor Will Roberts, cabinet member for neighborhood services, said: “It’s been a long wait but I’m pleased to say we’re now making good progress and we’re about to open an improved bridge with a three-metre footbridge, which is appropriate. for both cyclists and walkers later this year.”

The council added that the Radford Road car park will remain closed while work is carried out to prepare and then install the new bridge. He urged pedestrians to continue to use the alternative entrances to Newbold Comyn on Willes Road or Newbold Terrace East.
