Bristol Road South was closed live when a cyclist was hit by a van

A police cordon is in place on Bristol Road South between Quarry Lane and South Road this evening after a cyclist collided with a van at around 4.30pm. The cyclist is said to have suffered injuries which are not said to be “life threatening”.

Our reporter sent us these images of the scene on Bristol Road South. The area between Quarry Lane and South Road is cordoned off but the opposite side of the motorway is now open to on-going traffic.

Collision between a cyclist and a van

West Midlands Police confirmed that a cyclist collided with a van at 4.30pm on Thursday. A man was taken to hospital with injuries which are not described as ‘life threatening’.

A spokesman said: “We were called to South Road, Northfield shortly after 4.30pm today (Thursday) following a collision between a cyclist and a van.

“A man was taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. Anyone with any information should contact us via Live Chat on our website or by calling 101 quoting log number 3589 of 11 July.”

Additional road closures

As well as the closure of Bristol Road South, South Road is also closed in both directions.

And Quarry Lane is closed in the upbound direction from the intersection with Pamela Road. Currently, the congestion stretches to Issac Tongue Junction.

The routes around Northfield are also very congested as traffic is fed onto smaller roads.

Bristol Road South is closed

Good evening. The A38 Bristol Road South is closed in both directions following reports of a collision.

Traffic is queuing from Quarry Lane to the petrol station and congestion stretches to Isaac Tongue Junction.

Bus services 20, 20A and 63 are diverted.
