A new cycle path is being built on Coventry Road

Work is set to start on a new Warwick cycle route on Coventry Road.

Guys Cross Park Road, Coventry RoadConstruction of a new cycle path on the A429 Coventry Road is due to start on Tuesday 14 May.

There will be a new cycleway along the west side between the Grand Union Canal Bridge and Woodloes Park and St John’s, completing a key link in the local network.

New crossing points will be included along the route to provide improved facilities for walkers, travelers and cyclists.

It will also see Warwickshire’s first ‘Parallel Crossings’ – a zebra crossing combined with a separate crossing for people cycling.

Coun Jan Matecki, Warwickshire County Council’s portfolio holder for transport and planning, said: “We looked in detail at the feedback and revised the designs which allowed us to refine some of the original proposals.

“This important cycle link will provide new opportunities for active travel along this corridor, supporting journeys to local destinations such as Warwick station and Warwick hospital.

Jan added that the scheme will help develop comprehensive networks of cycle routes in Warwickshire’s main towns and make cycling a better choice for long journeys.

The scheme is funded by the Council, the Government’s Cycle Rail to Station Fund and the Government’s Building Fund through the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership.
