Warrington Wolves managed a routine Super League win over Leeds Rhinos, who were playing under head coach Brad Arthur.

The Wire, who climb to second in the table, went 12-0 up in the opening five minutes through tries from Matty Ashton and Matt Dufty.

David Fusitu’a got Leeds on the board but Dufty came in again and Rodrick Tai’s score on the hooter made it 24-4 at the break.

Lachlan Miller crossed for the Rhinos before George Williams was sin-binned for the home side for a high tackle and Ned McCormack further reduced the arrears with the first try of his career.

Tom Whitehead headed over from close range for Warrington to snuff out their hopes of a Leeds comeback, before Paul Momirovski later crossed for the visitors after Ashton was sent off for a professional foul.

Leeds remain two points behind the sixth-placed Catalans, who now have a game in hand.

Warrington have won their last three games and are two points behind Wigan, although they have played two more games.

New coach Arthur Rhinos only arrived in the country from Australia early Thursday and has seen his new charges off to a terrible start.

Rhyse Martin’s handling error gave the home side great field position and Ashton capitalized to touch down from a Williams flick and they made it back-to-back scores when Dufty slotted in after some loose Leeds defending.

The Rhinos had won their last two games under interim coaches Chev Walker and Scott Grix and hit back with Fusitu’a’s finish in the corner from a Brodie Croft drop-kick.

However, the home side closed out the half as they started it with quick tries from the in-form Dufty and Tai’s opportunistic score from a ricochet off a shot that saw them lead comfortably at half-time.

Arthur, who has signed a deal until the end of the season, will have been encouraged by the way his new side came through to make it 10 points, but Whitehead’s try after a lengthy video review ended their faint hopes. of a positive result.
