Police’s vital message to public after shooting near Go Local

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a man was shot in the leg in a “targeted attack”.

Officers were called to Scotland Road on Thursday evening, May 9, after a 39-year-old man was said to have been shot outside a Go Local store. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he is said to be in stable condition.

A takeaway worker told the ECHO he heard three bangs ring out in the street before a man shouted “someone’s been shot”.

Police are still looking for the gunman, believed to be a man in dark clothing, who fled in the direction of Woodstock Street. Police believe the attack was targeted.

Detective Inspector John Mullen, of Merseyside Police, said: “We know there were a number of people in the vicinity of the Go Local store on Thursday night, including some who came to the victim’s aid after he was shot.

“We have yet to speak to these people to establish what they saw or know and I would urge them to contact us either directly or anonymously through Crimestoppers. People who carry and use guns do not deserve to walk our streets and the public’s support, together with key witness information, is vital to enable us to bring the person responsible to justice.”
