Leeds United midfielder Lewis Bate may have been eyeing a trip to Wembley with the way MK Dons finished the season, but were soundly dumped out by Crawley Town last week.

The Whites have too many players on loan across Europe to keep track of this season, but with the season winding down for many, decisions are likely to be made.

Several have gone to other EFL clubs, including Lewis Bate, who left in January to join MK Dons in League One, where former Leeds talent Max Dean currently resides.

Lewis Bate’s MK Dons have crashed out of the League Two play-offs

Bate’s side finished fourth in the League Two promotion race, narrowly missing out on automatic promotion and facing a play-off against seventh-placed Crawley Town.

After being beaten 3-0 away, Bate’s side returned to their home ground looking for a miraculous comeback, but were further beaten.

A 5-1 defeat at home meant MK Dons went down 8-1 on aggregate against them as Dean scored and missed a penalty in the second leg.

Bate’s season comes to an end at his loan club as MK Dons prepare for their second season in League Two.

Bate has since taken to social media to react to his side missing out on promotion, in which he appears to indicate his time at MK Dons is over:

Bate is unlikely to return to Thorp Arch this summer for pre-season, with his contract due to expire shortly, seeing him leave Elland Road after joining in 2021.

Too bad Bate didn’t work for Leeds

Bate came to Leeds with a solid reputation from his time in Chelsea’s academy and I saw exactly why at the U21s.

It didn’t work though when he was dropped deep under Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch in 21/22 and never started.

We should have been much more lenient in finding him on loan because his skills are greater than a half-season loan in Ligue 2.
